Massachusetts Scrimmage Observations 8/23/25
On a lovely Saturday afternoon on August 23, 2025 I made my way to the shores of Cape Cod to watch a four-team scrimmage featuring four prominent Massachusetts High school Football programs: Barnstable, Dennis-Yarmouth, Plymouth South, and Springfield Central. Given the arrangement of the four teams, I was unable to evaluate all the players on the field as two scrimmages we going on at the same time. I set my primary focus on the Plymouth South Team and the Barnstable High school team.
In this report, I will share my observations regarding several players that I haven’t seen yet in a live scrimmage game action and grabbed my attention during the scrimmage. All are or have the potential to be a college prospect..
### Scouting Report: Jayson Dyer
**Date of Scrimmage:** August 23, 2025
**Location:** Barnstable High School, Massachusetts
**Position:** Running Back
**Height/Weight:** 5’10”, 180 lbs
**Grad Year:** 2026
**Overview:**
Jayson Dyer was the standout Top performer at the scrimmage on August 23, showcasing his exceptional skills as a running back. Known for his fluid athleticism, I recorded Dyer impressive 40-yard dash times of 4.63 and 4.68 at the University of Rhode Island camp, highlighting his explosive speed.
**Athleticism & Running Style:**
Dyer demonstrates a strong initial burst and runs with remarkable low pad level, making it difficult for defenders to bring him down. His ability to lean into contact allows him to power through tackles, and his innate skill to twist and turn during engagement enables him to evade defenders and gain extra yardage.
**Performance Highlights:**
Throughout the scrimmage, Dyer was consistently effective, scoring multiple touchdowns on the ground, finishing runs and in the air with notable effort and determination. His vision and instinctive play make him a significant offensive threat on the field.
**Conclusion:**
Jayson Dyer unique blend of speed, agility, and competitive drive sets him apart. With his Division 1-level speed, he is undoubtedly a top-tier athlete who can make catches out of the backfield and deliver powerful runs against opposing defenses. I anticipate he will gain significant attention from colleges during and following his senior season.

**Overview:**
Ronnell Armstrong caught my attention at the Barnstable High School scrimmage, displaying impressive skills and potential on both sides of the line. Verified at 6’3†and 220 lbs during the Prep Redzone New England Combine event, Armstrong is a solid offensive line prospect with developmental upside.
**Offensive Skills:**
Positioned mainly at tackle, Ronnell demonstrated his prowess in both run and pass blocking. He was particularly effective at executing down blocks, exhibiting strength and technique that allowed him to create lanes for runners. His pass protection skills were put to the test, but he consistently held defenders at bay with good form and quick hands.
**Agility & Technique:**
Armstrong showcases a quick first step, enabling him to engage with defenders rapidly. He excels in the run game, efficiently getting to the second level during combo blocks. In addition, his quick feet and strong strokes help him maintain leverage and control in pass protection, making him a reliable force on the line.
**Conclusion:**

Coffin displays strong leadership qualities, commanding the offense with a confident demeanor. As a likely focal point for his team this season, his play will significantly impact their success. Recognized as an All-State Honorable Mention in 2024, he clearly possesses considerable talent.

Plymouth South Head Coach Comments: A 6’3 200 lb speedster who is able to make plays and score anytime the ball is in his hands. Has a 4.3 GPA and has a lot of interest from NESCAC schools. On defense, from free safety he is able to fill the alley in the run and play center field and take away a 1/3 of the field in the passing game.
### Scouting Report: Ben Frechette
