In a thrilling showdown on October 24, 2025, New Canaan High School’s Michael “Mikey†Hiraman delivered a great play and performance that has earned him the title of “New England Top Play of the Week for the 2025 season Week 8″ of the 2025 season. Mikey, a 5’11”, 205 lb linebacker/edge rusher, showcased his athletic skills at a critical moment when the game hung in the balance.
In a game played on October 24, 2025, between New Canaan, CT, and Greenwich, CT, with just six minutes remaining and Greenwich trailing by seven, they found themselves on the Rams’ 12-yard line, facing a second-and-10. Quarterback Tarantino attempted a strategic pass before deciding to take the ball himself. In a flash, Mikey displayed significant leverage to shed his blocker and used his exceptional pursuit skills and strong technique to close in on him. With textbook precision, he executed a tackle strip sack, ripping the ball loose and recovering it at the 11-yard line, swinging the momentum back in favor of the Rams!
After the game, Hiraman humbly credited his coaches’ advice, saying, “Just grab the tip of the ball and rip it out.†His dedication to the game shone through as he contributed significantly to the team, finishing with 4 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles, and 1 sack, along with his game-changing fumble recovery.
This electrifying play not only helped secure the victory for New Canaan but solidified Mikey Hiraman’s standing as one of the top defensive players in the New England region and a future star for Amherst College.
